Weaving in Blended Quotations

You are required to incorporate at least four quotes in your research paper-- and one the quotes has to be more than four lines across when you type it in your paper-- referred to as your "long quote."

Search for at least two (2) separate quotations  from

the script of the movie.  Make a Zerox or print a copy of the page(s) where you found the quote.

Highlight script quote 1 in blue and script quote 2 in pink.

Highlight your quotation from the Elements of Literature textbook in yellow

Highlight your required other academic source or site in

green.

Keep careful records of the sources of the quotes you plan to use, along with other

facts or details from the movie you plan to use to prove your points.  Review the class

handout on incorporating quotes in order to make them “blended” rather than

“stand alone.”

Note:   Carefully note the http:  address that you find the quotes on, the date

you looked up the quotes,  the names of the writer and director, and the name

and page and scene  (if possible ) of the  particular scene in which  the quotes

are found. Make a print of that page only.

The way you cite a source can vary, depending on what you write in your sentences.

For example:

Citation without an author in a signal phrase:

Sometimes educational videos aren't well-written.  Sometimes a particular video isn't

the "best idea in the world" (Birdow 2).

Citation with an author in the signal phrase:

According to Birdow, "[The video] wasn't the best idea in the world" (2).

The Last of the Mohican movie script can be found at  http://www.mohicanpress.com

  Braveheart

  The Fellowship of the Ring

 The Two Towers

 The Patriot

The Princess Bride

B.  Read the info about how and when to use quotations at the following site.  http://library.sfcc.spokane.cc.wa.us/guides/quotingMLAstyle.stm

 C.  For each of your two (2) blended (not "stand-alone") quotations from the movie,

includes not " the heart" of the  quote and don't forget to comment about

the point you are making with the quote.

 D.  Look up how to incorporate quotes from class notes.

E.Cite the source after the quote.

F. Highlight the quotes  in the color they are assigned as well as the citation in your

 rough draft

The yellow source: The quote from the anthology-- Elements of Literature

The blue source: quote1 from the script on the internet

The pink source: quote 2 from the script on the internet

The green source: quote from a different academic source or site
