Hi!  It's nice to meet you.

I grew up in a place that has deer, elk, moose, and bear.  We had snow days sometimes, and I loved to ski when I could.  We had no cockroaches, no fire ants, no poisonous snakes and no hurricanes.  There were about 200 people in my graduating class.  It was a beautiful place to grow up....Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

My mom and dad and grandmother and uncle and other uncle... in fact, most of my family were or are educators, and I knew since I was in third grade that I wanted to become an English teacher.   I wanted to get to know people from more cultures in order to teach well.

I picked Michigan State University and became a Spartan.

At  Michigan State, I earned a cognate in Classical Languages, and I graduated as an English Education major in l982.  I taught in Michigan before I moved to Houston in l989.

Besides school, I love my cats and family,

 music,

learning languages,

running (even though I am still a beginner),

spending time with friends,

                         writing,

cooking vegetarian meals,

                                                                traveling,

and playing with technology.

I have been teaching at Hastings since l989.  I love teaching sophomores and juniors at Hastings, and I became a Vanguard teacher in 2002.

Time for a pop quiz!

I love

a. high school students  b.  literature and writing

c.  thinking about how to teach something so that it is more interesting and effective  d. computers  e.  all of the above.

If you guessed "e", you're off to a good start!  :)
